the fishing industry for centuries. Now, the city is also becoming a national leader
for offshore wind energy. The city's port is home to two major marine terminals: the
Foss Marine Terminal, which has been used for offshore wind assembly and deployment,
and the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal, which is the state-of-the-art facility
designed specifically for offshore wind. These terminals provide NOWI with access
to some of the best infrastructure in the country for offshore wind training and certification.
In addition to its advanced offshore wind capabilities, New Bedford provides visitors
with an immersive cultural experience. The district features unique architecture,
a thriving arts community, and a variety of restaurants, shops, and hotels.
Careers in Offshore Wind
The Occupational Outlook Handbook states that employment in the wind turbine industry is expected to grow significantly over the next decade. To prepare for this, Bristol Community College has developed two degree programs in Offshore Wind: an Associate of Applied Science in Offshore Wind Energy, and a Certificate in Offshore Wind Power Technician. Both programs provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in a growing industry with a high demand for qualified professionals.
